Sometimes you want a more refined beverage to pair with your White Stone oysters. While a beer pairing is a classic and tasty summertime combo, there are several cocktails that also work well with oysters.
Take a look at these recipes, and give them a try at your next oyster roast, romantic dinner, or afternoon shuckin’ session.
Gin Fizz
The gin fizz is a perfect pairing for your White Stone oysters for a couple of reasons. The classic cocktail originated in New Orleans and uses a gin-centric recipe. The sharp, cutting flavor of gin pairs perfectly with the heavier umami flavors of oysters. It’s also a light, frothy drink that offers a different mouth feel than what you typically get from oysters.
Make it yourself:
- 2 tbsp thawed orange juice concentrate
- 4 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 oz gin
- 1 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 large egg white
- ⅓ cup chilled club soda.
Combine the sugar, concentrate, and juice into a cocktail shaker and mix. Then add the gin, cream, and egg white, fill the shake with ice and shake until frothy. This recipe will make 2 drinks.
Rum Runner
This super sweet, boozy cocktail is perfect for offsetting the saltiness found in oysters. It comes from 1950s tiki bars and can add a tropical vibe to any oyster slurpin’ session.
Make it yourself:
- 2 tbsp lime juice
- 2 tbsp orange juice
- 2 tbsp pineapple juice
- 2 tbsp banana liquor
- 2 tbsp light rum
- 2 tbsp dark rum
- 1 tbsp Chambord
- 1 tbsp grenadine
- Garnish: mixed fruit skewer
Pour all ingredients into an ice-filled cocktail shaker, shake vigorously and pour into an ice-filled hurricane glass.
Yellow Bird
This light and a relatively flavor-neutral cocktail is meant to be served with a meal and provides a refreshing palate cleanser between bites. It pairs well with oysters for the simple fact that it won’t overpower their flavors or blow out your palate.
Make it yourself:
- Galliano liquor
- Triple sec
- Freshly squeezed lime juice
Combine all ingredients with ice, shake and pour.
