Summer Wine Pairings For Oysters

Choosing a light refreshing wine to go with your fresh shucked or grilled oysters at your next summer cookout can seem tough, but it’s not. If you love oysters and want to bring out their best flavors, consider some of these wines the next time it’s time to shuck.

Sauvignon Blanc

This style of wine goes well with most seafood. It’s light, crisp, and has high acidity. Most Sauvignon Blancs have a citrus flavor profile which makes them great for sipping with fresh oysters. Try them with a savory oyster topping or with grilled oysters to further compliment the flavors.

Muscadet

Muscadet is a French white wine made near the Loire Valley. It is known for pairing perfectly with oysters because of its high acidity and dry texture. It tends to have green fruit notes, like lime, apples, pears, and even lemons.

Albariño

Grown near the Iberian Peninsula, Albariño is a Spanish wine with a sharp zip, making it a good match for savory oysters like ours. It often has hints of peach, nectarine, and grapefruit, which really bring out the relaxing summer vibes with every sip. It’s often paired with oysters and scallops.

Fino Sherry

As the driest of the sherry wines, Fino Sherry is perfect for pairing with oysters because of its unobtrusive and subtle pairings. The coastal wine will have nutty flavors and a consistent light-bodied feel. It goes great with salty seafood like oysters and is perfect for bringing out the flavors of fresh shucked, raw oysters.

The next time you’re aching to spend some time on the patio with good friends, follow these steps:

  1. Order some White Stone Oysters
  2. Heat up the grill and grab your oyster shucker
  3. Get the wine on ice
  4. Call your friends and get to shuckin’
